How Online Consultations Work
Video consultations allow for comprehensive assessment when you can't attend in person. While physical examination is limited, movement testing, detailed history-taking, and visual assessment still provide valuable insight into most hip presentations.

Assessment and Discussion
We'll discuss your history, watch you move through specific tests, and build a clear picture of what's going on. You'll receive recommendations and a plan by email after the call.
What to Prepare
To get the most from your video consultation, you'll need:
Device with Camera
Laptop, tablet, or phone with a working camera. A larger screen makes movement easier to see.
Floor Space
Enough room to lie down, stand up, and perform basic movements. A yoga mat or carpet is ideal.
Comfortable Clothing
Shorts or leggings that allow hip and knee movement. Something you're comfortable moving in.
Good Lighting
Light the area well so movement is clearly visible. Avoid bright windows behind you.
Who Online Consultations Suit
Video appointments work well for many hip presentations, particularly:
International Clients
Access specialist assessment from anywhere in the world. Time zones can be accommodated.
Remote Areas
If you're far from specialist services, video consultations provide access without hours of travel.
Follow-Up Appointments
Ongoing rehabilitation reviews, exercise progression, and problem-solving without clinic visits.
Second Opinions
Already seen someone but want another perspective? Video consultations work well for case review and advice.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you assess hip pain properly without hands-on examination?
Much of hip assessment is observational: watching how you move, listening to symptom patterns, understanding aggravating positions. While certain tests require physical contact, many presentations can be evaluated effectively via video. If hands-on assessment is essential, I'll recommend an in-person visit.
What happens after the consultation?
You'll receive a written summary via email, including findings, recommendations, and a rehabilitation programme where appropriate. Video demonstrations of exercises can be shared where helpful.
Do you need scans or imaging before the appointment?
Not usually. If you have existing imaging (MRI, X-ray, ultrasound), it can be useful — send it beforehand. But most initial consultations don't require imaging to proceed. I'll advise if imaging becomes relevant.
What if I need hands-on treatment?
Rehabilitation for most hip issues is exercise-based. If your presentation would benefit from manual therapy, I can recommend appropriate local practitioners, or you can book an in-person session at the London or Midlands clinic.
Is the video call secure?
Yes. Consultations run through Cliniko's secure platform, which is encrypted and compliant with healthcare privacy standards. No account required — just click the link.
